This Western Red Cedar strip canoe was hand crafted 22 years ago using techniques from Ted Moore's book CanoeCraft: An Illustrated Guide to Fine Woodstrip Construction. Handcrafted and built to last for generations using very light western red cedar sandwiched between two layers of fiberglass cloth, bonded with #207 epoxy and coated with a marine varnish. Its design is well-known across Minnesota and the Minnesota Canoe Associations classic - "BWCA Cruiser". It is the flagship canoe from the design team of Karl Neal Ketter, Irvin (Buzz) Peterson, Chris Berne, Frank Wattunen. The canoes measurements are: 18' long, Beam 35", Waterline 32", 11" deep, bow height 18" and weighs 63 pounds. Overall, the canoe is an Asymmetrical design with the widest part of the hull being behind the center of the boat. It has some tumblehome, slight rocker, flatter bottom, shallow draft, high initial stability and a reinforced bow. The canoe is built without ribs, to enable barrier free access to the entire envelope and uninterrupted views of the cedar strip pattern, gunwales, decks, thwarts, and seats. It's a show grade canoe that is sure to attract attention on & off the water and will quickly become your treasured family heirloom. Included with this canoe are two wooden paddles handmade by S Blathon and Numbered 58 & 59.
